Don't B(SU) Scurred...It's Only Boise State.
No, screw this whole "Boise State's the Gonzaga of the BCS" shit. We're past that. Oh wait, I need to rewind a smidge. Why am I writing all of this about a team that even if it runs the table ala OU last year, they won't get a BCS Title game appearance or even (feasibly) a BCS Bowl game in spite of winning every time it has gotten the call? Because of what Boise State AD did that nobody's taking him up on.
Okay, you're Boise State. You're a perennial power who has emerged as a school with more than just Blue Turf. You're putting up points like no one's business, you won the Orange Bowl a few years ago with the Statue Of Liberty. Yes, they won a bowl game beating one of the most storied programs in FBS history with a GIMMICK PLAY!!! Since then, aside from Utah, they've been consistently cracking the BCS Circle Jerk and knocking off whomever's in front of them. Earlier this year, they put the wood to possible Pac-10 Champion Oregon. A loss that hit one of the Ducks so hard, he felt the need to deck a BSU player in the jaw after the fact. So, with next year's non-conference schedule filled in with dates against Oregon State and Virginia Tech (yes, Beamer Ball against Blue Ball, bet this won't be on ESPN next year :P)...2011's wide open. So, Boise State AD Gene Bleymaier has basically laid down this edict to any school within the 50 states.
Schedule us and we'll come to you. You don't have to come to Boise in 2012, we come to you in 2011. Most schools, at the notion they have to host a team and don't have to travel the year after to that school would JUMP at this chance. Think Ohio State would take a visit from Florida without having to travel to Gainesville the following year? Or Texas getting a visit from USC without having to march into the Coliseum the following year? Here's where you can see that these "big time schools" really have hearts that bleed Kool-Aid. Not ONE SCHOOL, not ACC, Big XII, SEC, Pac-10...FUCK. Not even the Big Ten and Big East are taking Boise State up on their offers. In the case of the last two conferences, uhm, you're not all you THINK you are. Big Ten, you've all but become the Big East Midwest with how watered down your conference has become. None of your schools are really scary to anyone...hmmm. Ya know now that I read what I've just written, perhaps they're right for not inviting Boise State into Happy Valley, Iowa City, The Big House or The Horseshoe. Some small school from Boise running up the score on them would kill what's left of their credibility. The Big East had best wake up too. Virginia Tech, Boston College & Da U aren't walking back through that door. Pac-10, man up. Seriously. USC, you're not scaring teams in your conference like ya used to. Perhaps a trip up to Boise might get that Northwest Anxiety out of your system so you can start putting the Trojan Pimp Hand back down on Oregon and Oregon State when necessary. Oh, did I forget to mention that your conference is being treated like a mid-major now? The last Pac-10 team to compete for a national title was...USC.
I can somewhat get why the SEC or Big XII feels like they don't have to jump at this. Their conference has favor with the Bullshit Cocksucking System, they don't really need a non-conference game hosting Boise State to get over. Actually, let me correct the 'C' in BCS. It's the Bullshit Circlejerk System. Or for the verbally sensitive...the Bogus Circlejerk System.
Yet, there's half of me that honestly...isn't shocked by this. Should a Florida or Texas host and LOSE to a Boise State...how do you shake that off? Conversely, a school like Nebraska, Tennessee or Auburn could get a game like this and win, showing recruits that they're still relevant on a national level. Flip side of course, BSU comes into the Red Sea (Lincoln, Nebraska), Rocky Top or Auburn and puts their faces in the sand. Then what? The sad truth of the matter is simply this. I'm not dumb enough to believe that a playoff system will solve this problem. If anything, a playoff no matter how many teams are in it, will dilute and take away from the regular season which within itself IS a playoff. Think about it, where else in sports can two losses effectively kill your season? Or for that matter, have you sweating after just ONE? There have been teams which have lost a game and seen its title hopes vanish just because either they lost at the wrong time or nobody else ahead of them slipped far enough to get them back into the mix. It's the system and the elimination of these computers which don't seem to know any more than the humans who are programming them that are the issue.
