And the Chase is set.

Much to Tony Stewart's own surprise -- he won't be in that chase for the championship. For the first time in Smoke's career he won't be in the top ten in drivers. And this writer is absolutely estatic about it.

Now, we could follow Tony's example and say that Tony just didn't get it done. That the other ten drivers are just better. But that wouldn't be one hundred percent correct. The truth is that Karma just finally caught up with Tony Stewart and as he stood there on pit lane being interviewed following the race it was tears of sadness, not joy, that Tony was wiping away.

Now while nascar.com reported that Tony didn't care about his first car getting smashed up during pratice, I'm sure that in hindsight -- Tony does care and he cares a whole lot. He's missing out on huge end of season bonuses given out by NASCAR to drivers in the Chase. He's missing out racing for his third championship and defending his current title. But call it whatever you want, in my opinion, karma has finally delivered Tony Stewart a nice little blow. It's a good start for karma for a driver who is probably the biggest asshole in NASCAR and has no right to be comparing himself to Dale Earnhardt.

Now that we've covered who isn't in the chase, I'll give a little mention to the guys in the chase :

1. Matt Kenseth
2. Jimmie Johnson
3. Kevin Harvick
4. Kyle Busch
5. Denny Hamlin
6. Dale Earnhardt Jr.
7. Mark Martin
8. Jeff Burton
9. Jeff Gordon
10. Kasey Kahne

Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson both have four wins a piece, but Kasey Kahne (who almost missed the chase) has five wins this season. Kevin Harvick now has three wins this year and everyone else hs two or under. This given, my top picks for the championship would be Matt Kenseth, Kevin Harvick, Kasey Kahne. And while I'd love to put my money on Jimmie Johnson--he's come in second one too many times for me to really believe that he can get it done this time around. One thing is for sure, I believe it will be a great race towards the championship and it really could be anyone's Nextel Cup at the end-of-season.

Actually, I was hoping all of Evernham's racers would get shut out with Tony. While Tony's the King of the Assholes, Evernham's boys are the royal court. Can't have everything, can I? My dark horse hope is Martin. This is definitely his last run. If he gets it, then hell why not?

Evernham's boys aren't the royal court. I've never seen Kasey do something out right assholeish. Or Mayfield, when he was still a member of the team. Or Saddler now that he is a member of the squad. So, I don't know how they ended up in your royal court.

But I would be happy for Mark if he won it all, I just don't see him getting it done with the momentum he brings going into the chase.
