Truly Thankful.
- I'd like to give thanks to the Yankees. No, really, I thank them for giving me that 'Captain Save-A-Fraud' which translates into a real time Captain Save-A-Ho to laugh at. I'd like to thank them for shitcanning the manager that returned them to respectability on a national level by winning four World Series titles in his first six seasons. Luck to Girardi trying to top that. Congrats to them breaking the bank *predictably* to get a nonachieving bat back that will NOT help them in October. Shame they aren't giving out trophies in September, the Yanks would have title #27 by now.
- I'd also like to give thanks to the Knicks, even though those who were duped into buying season tickets probably aren't. I'd like to give thanks to them because simply put, when the Yanks aren't in play, it's great to see these clowns are giving me more than plenty to laugh at. I mean, let us chronicle the past few months in Knicks' history shall we?
First, they get caught up in a sexual harrassment trial which they lose but are actually too stupid to settle out of court to avoid the humiliation that comes with losing a SEXUAL HARRASSMENT TRIAL. Hold up. This is the same franchise that shelled out MILLIONS to the likes of Jared Jeffries, Allan Houston *as a fan back then, even I couldn't defend this*, Jerome James and so on...but couldn't pay someone to shut her trap to avoid the backlash that followed? Good grief, this stupidity has reached Beavis and Butthead levels.
Before that, they made a deal to get yet another combustible element to their team that "in theory" made them a player in the East...but come on folks. "In theory" didn't win no championships, last time I checked. Speaking of said combustability, Crapbury decided to take his ball and go home after finding out he was demoted. Follow me here, it gets real dumbass from here. He comes back to the team and damn near every man on the team not named Isiah wants him to sit. So he does...for all of about 5 minutes against the Clips. He plays the rest of the game and well, so much for team unity right? Honestly, if it weren't for this Knicks fan I work with, I probably wouldn't feel the need to bring this up other than in passing...but he continues to live on this notion that the Knicks are what they were a decade ago and that's just not the case. Now you've got fans chanting for Isiah to be fired in front of Commissioner Stern and Son of Dumbass, I meant Dolan. I'll get to this in-depth in a seperate column. Now...for some good things I'm thankful for. - Brett Favre. I'm thankful he's showing all these so called experts that at his age, he's better than more than half the QBs in the league half his age. Let me be clear on this right now, Favre is the Flair of QBs. Well, minus the multiple championships and what not, Flair at his age can still wrestle clinics that half the youngins couldn't dream of. Favre's got a better record now than he did when he won his first Super Bowl, now what does that tell you about how great he is? He's doing more with less,
much like my dog Brady did. And I'm predicting this right now...
If the Pack win Thursday, we'll see Favre/Brady on Super Sunday one time for the great time. Romo's Boys won't like Lambeau in the cold and I honestly don't think they'll like the frigid turf and honestly...as I said before, there's just something about Favre that has me thinking he's not going to be outdone thrice at home in January *remember, only two teams have beaten him at home in the playoffs, Vick's Falcons and Culpepper's Vikes, which ironically had Moss on it*. Oh yeah, I'll be coming back to that whole 'more with less' thing in a little bit.
- The media. Wha? Why them? Because they've given me a true villain to root for in the Patriots. Now of course it's not just them, all these so called professionals who are crying that the Pats are running it up on them, thanks for giving me something to laugh at. The Patriots are just flat out on another level right now, they're on All-Madden and the rest of the league is stuck on Rookie. I watched their game on Sunday night and ya know, I like it. In my lifetime, I can honestly say I've been able to follow, as in legitimately understand what's going on...just 2 flat out dominating teams. The 89 49ers *can't believe my Mom duped me into betting against them in that Super Bowl* and the 92 Cowboys. I could go on to include the Super Bowl Shuffling Bears...but I was 5 and didn't give two craps about football...yet. Anyway, I haven't seen anything like this and honestly, if they keep Moss next year *which they more than likely will*, get used to this sight.
People for some odd reason kept making this whole Brady/Manning thing as if it were a big deal. Despite the fact that Brady's got double the ring total than Manning's got with a LOT LESS TO WORK WITH, all of a sudden we take Harrison out of the picture and Peyton's throwing six picks and looking mortal after all. I believe a true franchise player, moreso at QB needs to be able to maintain a certain level with or without his main threats. Brady won three rings with no discernible playmaking or breaking threats like he has now, Peyton won one finally with exactly that. Now, we're seeing what each can do in the other's shoes. Brady's showing the world that if he had the caliber of talent that Peyton had, he'd shatter every record Peyton's claimed and with the type of talent Brady's had...well, if your a DB, get ready for a career day. Just ask Cromartie.
- I'm thankful for this college football season as a whole, which has been the most exciting one I've seen yet. I mean, you've got traditional powers falling to the back of the pack (Alabama, Miami, etc.) and folks we only knew for college basketball letting us know they have football programs! (UConn, Mizzou, Kansas) And believe it or not, I'm thankful that the BCS might have no choice but to let one of those latter two schools play for its prestigious prize if they win their final two games.
- I'm thankful for the feel great stories that are going on with programs like Kansas and Mizzou, which will have everyone's attention tomorrow night in a rivalry game that in our respective lifetimes, we haven't had any rhyme or reason to care about. Thankful that even though they are not going to a BCS game this year, it's great that in my lifetime, I got to see Rutgers become a respectable program.
And I'd do the whole 'I'm thankful for SB to vent on', but that'd be hokey and all that other crap. :P So I won't do that because I'm not hokey. I'll just keep coming here and dropping it the way I know how. Because to quote a once famous wrestler...
That's how I roll. :-)
