What? Didn't think I'd forget to mention this, did ya? Okay, I got caught up in some fun Yankee bashing but hey, it's fun and helped me take my mind off of the utter disappointment that was the Mets' collapse. I mean, in their defense, at least their organization isn't anywhere near as wonky as the Yanks. But enough on that. Let's talk college football.

For about 48 to 72 hours almost incessantly I heard any and every possible piece of propaganda one could hear about USF's improbable rise to #2 in the rankings. #2 team in the land, they say. The New Rutgers, they said. Quietly, I said very little because I knew what was coming last Thursday. I knew that in the Scarlet Terrordome, where all Top 10 teams come to be put down and hit with the Scarlet Letter known as R...order would be restored and USF would make like that one hit wonder that's never heard from again.

Last year, we had Louisville strutting in thinking they were the best thing since sliced bread. They got buttered and eaten alive. Nine days ago, we gave people in Chestnut Hill reason to smile as we've all but removed USF from any title consideration that's not Big East related and if Rutgers finishes in a tie with USF, you can squash that thought too.
Now don't get me wrong, I don't back off what I said before. USF's ranking was a bi-product of scheduling football teams that have something that remotely resembles a pulse instead of every cream puff and cupcake from their state that will willingly bend over and take it raw for a few bucks. Take a bow, Schmoe State. Here's hoping your season's crushed in the weekend before Thanksgiving by a team that opened its year by being rolled by App State.

Oh and for those of you who thought BC was a joke, Matt Ryan has just two words for you all after Thursday...F-U.

Still, I'm proud of Rutgers for the first time in like...forever. In talking with my grandfather about this, it's a funny thing...ten years ago or so when I saw my first college football game (Temple/Rutgers in case anyone was curious) at Rutgers Stadium you could literally buy a ticket minutes into the game. Now, I would venture to say, short of reserving them a year in advance, find a really good spot from outside the stadium to watch and hope for the best. It's really great to be a Rutgers fan.

- The Women's team not withstanding the rantings of one dumbass crock jock, were the National Runner-Up in last year's Final Four. C. Vivian Stringer's got the women's program going in the right direction (mad props to you for putting dumbass Zeke in his place by the by, I'll get on this in a few days specifically) and it's great to see.

- The football program once on triple-bogey status with the likes of Temple, Indiana and other non-football illuminaries might be a WVU win away from being put up there with some of the big cats of the game (not quite elite, but they're getting there).

I have no comment on the men's b-ball program, because sad is sad no matter how you spell it out. Still, much love to the R for representing and making it OK to wear a Rutgers jersey in public. :-)
