Conspiracy theories, go!
At a news conference Wednesday, Owens denied the strongest parts of the police report, which was obtained by media outlets before most details were blacked out in the formal release. [T.Os publicist Kim] Etheredge lashed out at authorities, saying, "I am just upset that I just feel they take advantage of Terrell. Had this been someone else, this may not have happened."
Look, you had most of us at least feeling sympathetic towards your client/meal ticket Terrell. Ive had to take Vicodin before. Rich has posted here while on Vicodin before. Its hard to think, let alone write and answer questions. Those pills are abused for a reason. Even at the dosage for my weight, I was pretty loopy in the week after my wisdom teeth were removed and Im sure Rich would agree if he wasnt so high.
Those pills are some serious shit, and its not surprising to me at all that after you had one or two in you that you might get confused and take some more a little too soon, especially if you just, say, had surgery on your hand and then decided to go catch some Tony Romo hot routes a week later.
Then Kim Etheredge, supposed publicist, screws the pooch like the star of an Amsterdam sex show.
She goes and opens up her mouth, fucking up all my sympathy for her execrable client. Complain about the handling of the report all you want, Kim (to a point you have a grievance, since it was leaked to the public without proper redaction, but not that much of a point), but I wouldnt go criticizing the officers who responded to the scene for reporting the information they had at hand based on your phone call, T.O.s own words, and the report of some of his posse about Owens being depressed.
"The report in my opinion reflects what the officers were told and represents their best interpretation of what happened," [Dallas police chief David] Kunkle said at a news conference Thursday. "But that doesn't mean it's the definitive account of the incident. Like all these situations, we're dealing with incomplete information and facts that change."
Maybe you watch too much C.S.I., but in the real world cops are humans who can and do make mistakes. If you want to start blaming people, you can start with yourself, Ms. Etheredge, for calling 911 and telling them you thought it was an attempted suicide. You can start with your client, either for trying to kill himself or for being dumb/high enough to eat too many hydrocodenes with his daily mouthful of colorful, nutritious pills.
"The officers reacted because they were called to this location to do this job. Now they're being put under a microscope by some fancy little football person," Senior Cpl. Glenn White said. "Give me a break. Those officers are 10 times better than this man. ... We police officers don't go out to these calls and make stuff up.
Did T.O. try to commit suicide? No, I dont think so. Men generally blow their brains out when theyre ready to go, they dont take pills. I think he legitimately fucked up, got his pills mixed up, and really was the victim of an accidental overdose. Thats excusable; like I said, those Vicodon generics will really fuck somebody up.
But whats inexcusable is Kim Etheredges Rosenhaus-level ignorance. By saying, in publicly-available records, that your client tried to commit suicide, youve violated the #1 rule for publicists and public relations people everywhere: you didnt make a negative into a positive. I can understand being scared hes going to die. We all can, so just admit that you panicked and SHUT UP while youre ahead.
Terrell was getting positive buzz for this. He was candid, charming even, in his press conference. For the first time in a long time, he came across like a human, and not a cartoon character. Hes been his own best spin doctor in this whole fiasco, but Ms. Etheredge has been nothing but an albatross.
While Owens might not have tried to commit suicide, it looks like his publicist has attempted career suicide. Let's hope she goes through with it. I'm sure Terrell has plenty of pills she can buy off him.
