Applauding Amaechi?

That's the word of the day, sorta. First, the basis for this...no, hold up. Few things first before I get into this deeplike.

- Congrats to Adolf Stern for FINALLY righting what would've been a huge wrong by putting Carmelo on the All-Star Team. Congrats Holmes, next time you feel the urge to give someone Not So Sweet Chin Music, remember; Adolf doesn't like you.

- The Crap Dunk Contest has officially hit bottom. No, not last year's 16 dunk display in the Finals thanks to eventual champ Nate Robinson aka “Less Talented Spud v-3.7,” but when the judges are more famous than the competitors, we've got a problem. And here's something that I, Len Jersey, will guarantee right now.

Next Saturday, the winning dunk will be less spectacular than any of the qualifying dunks executed by the judges in their respective winning years. I swear, after they robbed Amare two years ago, I stopped watching this. They make the WWE seem real by comparison.

- Doc Rivers, get that resume updated; your pink slip's gonna be in the mail anytime now. Screw the whole "Vote of Confidence" you got a few days ago. That just means you're one step away from being ousted. Oh and Danny Ainge, trading to get non point guard Sebastian Telfair from the Jail Blazers? Dumbest. Move. EVER. Way to ensure your team stays in the tank, and way to ensure that Pierce will probably never again make the playoffs wearing the Celtic green.

Okay, time for the Big Show. Not THAT guy, by the by.

A few days ago, former NBA player John Amaechi came out making him the first pro baller to announce he's gay. The reaction, as you can guess, was mixed. Charles Barkley said he's cool with it. He's played with a few gay guys in his day and well, what's it matter? Others, however, haven't quite joined the rest of us in the 21st Century. Take my favorite player in the league for instance, LeHyped James. What says you, Overrated One, on this matter?

“With teammates you have to be trustworthy, and if you’re gay and you’re not admitting that you are, then you are not trustworthy,” James said. “So that’s like the No. 1 thing as teammates — we all trust each other. You’ve heard of the in-room, locker room code. What happens in the locker room stays in there. It’s a trust factor, honestly. A big trust factor.”

Very interesting. Okay, from this point forward, I shall forever name him LeHyped Jackass. Because with statements like that, that's the sort of thing a jackass who doesn't know anything from anything would say. Hell Holmes, if I had to put three bucks on the dime on this, I'd venture to guess that because of folks like you and this goof...

“As long as you don’t bring your gayness on me I’m fine,” Randolph said.

This would be Shavlik Dumbass Randolph, from Duke University. Yes, THAT Duke, the one which produces such outstanding young dumbasses that think riding a bike without a helmet is a great idea and the type of upstanding gentlemen who order strippers and rape em' [I think it's all but a consensus agreement that the prosecutor was a total dummy and blew it with this one].

Shavlik, who's done nothing from nothing since leaving Duke basically has no place to talk or even MUTTER this sort of thing. Hell son, you may as well be gay because you CANNOT PLAY. Here's your sign, go back to Duke and sit next to Coach K. Sadly, these types of reactions are the reason why you probably won't see an openly gay guy playing the NBA now or anytime soon.

We as individuals collectively are closed minded individuals who find it easier to pass judgment on a person because of their lifestyle choices [note, it's a choice of LIFESTYLE, not something people are BORN WITH as most of the world has led us to believe]. Personally, I can applaud the man for having the courage to stand up and admit who he is.

Fact of the matter is, he is who he is. He's still a human being, the last time I checked. Being gay doesn't diminish that, unless you ask the two dumbasses who disagree. LeHype and Shavlicked represent the mass majority who disapprove of such a thing on their respective teams. But Amaechi isn't the first basketball player to admit that he's gay. Some time last year, Sheryl Swoopes came out as a gay woman. I think it registered maybe a brief tremor all told. I mean, who'd care about the WNBA unless they ran up and down the court in string bikinis?

All seriousness aside, I pray that people can learn how to accept one another in spite of their lifestyle choices. They don't stop being humans because they swing one way or the other; they simply stop making the same choices the rest of the world makes everyday.

Keep it great folks.

Len, hon, exactly where do you get the idea that being gay is a "lifestyle choice"? Do you honestly think ANYONE is his or her right mind would CHOOSE a lifestyle that in this society more or less guarantees that they will be ridiculed, ostracized and/or abused? That's like saying you chose to be black.

I think Shavlik Randolph got gay all over him playing at Duke, so he's worried he might be carrying it.

Which reminds me--exactly what should one "bring your gayness" with? Leather attaché? Gold lamé Gucci bag ? Does gayness fit inside a duffel bag or should you have UPS deliver it ahead of time instead? ;)
