It's MLB awards time.

Alright folks, I'm going to make this one concise. The funny will come back when I get the recording technology working.

Warning, Mama Jade, this isn't going to be the Yanks year...

MLB awards by League.

National League-

Hank Aaron Award Winner, Silver Slugger Award Winner and NL MVP - Ryan Howard

Cy Young - Brandon Webb - Arizona Diamondbacks

Rawling's Golden Glove

Pitcher - Greg Maddux - Chicago Cubs/LA Dodgers
Catcher - Brad Ausmus - Houston Astros
1st Base - Albert Pujols - St. Louis Cardinals (Also helped win the 2K6 World Series.)
2nd Base - Orlando Hudson - Arizona Diamondbacks
Shortstop - Omar Visquel - San Francisco Giants (This is number 13 for him in his career.)
3rd Base - Scott Rolen - St. Louis Cardinals (Even though he's not talking to LaRussa, he's still playing defense.)
Outfield - Mike Cameron - San Diego Padres, Andruw Jones - Atlanta Braves, Carlos Beltran - New York Mets

Louisville Slugger's Silver Slugger Award

Pitcher - Carlos Zambrano - Chicago Cubs
Catcher - Brian McCann - Atlanta Braves
1st Base - Ryan Howard - Philadelphia Phillies
2nd Base - Chase Utley - Philadelphia Phillies
Shortstop - Jose Reyes - New York Mets
3rd Base - Miguel Cabrera - Florida Marlins
Outfield - Alfonso Soriano - Washington Nationals, Carlos Beltran - New York Mets, Matt Holiday - Colorado Rockies

Rich's Notes: Surprisingly, only two of the Cards got the Glove, and Rolen might not be around for long if Tony has his way. Surprising to see that Webb got the Cy, but not really. Also, it's scary how many awards that Howard got this year.

If you want more awards, go look them up. I like relievers, but I'm not putting up the fucking Rolaids Award.

American is up next...

American League -

Silver Slugger Award Winner and AL MVP - Justin Morneau - Minnesota Twins

Cy Young - Johan Santana - Minnesota Twins (Also the first AL AL Triple Crown in the last 7 years. Also the first MLB Triple Crown since Doc Gooden in 1985.)

Rawling's Golden Glove

Pitcher - "The Gambler" Kenny Rogers - Detroit Tigers
Catcher - Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez - Detroit Tigers (This makes the Dirty Dozen for Pudge.)
1st Base - Mark Texieira - Texas Rangers
2nd Base - Mark Grudzielanek - KC Royals
Shortstop - Derek Jeter - New York Yankees (Also won the Hank Aaron Award for AL)
3rd Base - Eric Chavez - Oakland A's
Outfield - Ichiro Suzuki - Seattle Mariners, Torii Hunter - Minnesota Twins, Vernon Wells - Toronto Blue Jays

Louisville Slugger's Silver Slugger Award

Designated Hitter - "Big Papi" David Ortiz - Boston Red Sox
Catcher - Joe Mauer - Minnesota Twins
1st Base - Justin Morneau - Minnesota Twins
2nd Base - Robinson Cano - New York Yankees
Shortstop - Derek Jeter - New York Yankees
3rd Base - Joe Crede - Chicago White Sox
Outfield - Jermaine Dye - Chicago White Sox, Vladimir Guerrero - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Manny Ramírez - Boston Red Sox

Rich's Notes - Jeter got his usual three awards this year, but missed the big one. I hate to tell people like Gammons and Kurkjian, but you can only be an MVP when your team does something. Jeter wasn't a help in the post, where Morneau was trying to win. No real surprises except for the MVP.

The MVP award isn't for the post-season, sweetness; that's why it gets voted on BEFORE the postseason starts. Nothing against Morneau's stats, but what got him the award was the Twins' down-the-stretch run that got them into the postseason. What Jeter did was truly valuable. He kept the Yankees afloat while his teammates were getting cut down with injuries right and left. He was a model of consistency at a time when the Yankees were more or less in chaos. If Jeter couldn't get the MVP with the year he had, then I doubt he'll ever get one, and for that I give the voters my "fuck you all, may you rot in hell forever" award.

The only consolation we Yankees fans have is that with or without a MVP award, Jeter's a first-ballot Hall-of Famer, while good as Morneau may be at the moment, he's most likely going to be "Justin Who?" in about five years time. :p

I don't think he'll become Justin Who in five years, but I do think he'll be a Yankee.

As far as first year HOF, that one might be shaky, Jade. As Woody and Skip said, if it was up to them, he would be. Gammons and Kurkjian have also said the same. However, a lot of the other writers say different. It seems that the midwest and west coast writers cost Jeter that one.

Most cited Jeter's arrogance as a big factor. Others are looking at his non-defense of A-Rod while he defended Giambi in the same situation. It seems that a lot of this year might hurt his chances.

With our internet media and mobile internet, I don't see Jeter getting much of a fair shake in this generation. He might be an east coast media darling, but the midwest, west, and south hate his guts. And they're getting to be a lot more vocal about it.

Honestly, I think Jeets should be a first year ballot. Yet, look at legends like McGwire who might be lucky if he gets in by his 10th year...

You forget, Rich, it's not the people who put folks in the hall, it's the BBWAA. And just who are they? Why, if you said East Coast Media Elites, then by God, you'd be right!

You're leaving out some things, Rich.

#1, nobody really likes A-Rod, even in the media.

#2, there are as many or more Yankee-lovers than Yankee-haters in the media.

#3, even Yankee-haters give Jeets props.

#4, this is a very long list.

#5, time heals all wounds and glosses over a lot of personality quirks

ARROGANT?! Sweetness, how in the hell is Jeter arrogant? He is one of the most humble, non-self-promoting, genuinely nice guys I've seen in baseball. When he gives interviews, he always talks team as opposed to self, he never makes a big deal out of any of his spectacular plays, he doesn't play the prima donna--how is that ARROGANT?

Now, I can understand people saying A-Rod is arrogant, because he tends to come off like that in interviews, no matter how hard he tries not to. I can understand people saying that Gary Sheffield is arrogant, because he tends to run off at the mouth about how great he is and whatnot. But JETER arrogant? No fucking way. The man goes out there and does his job, puts the team and his teammates ahead of himself, and never acts in a way that can be considered embarrassing to his team or to baseball in general. If you were to poll every player in baseball, I bet most (if not all) of them would want to have Derek Jeter as a teammate.

You're just jealous that he gets the hot chicks like Jessica Alba. ;)
