An Open Letter To Opie Frank...
I had hoped the day would come when simply put, I wouldn't have to write this piece. I had hoped that much like with Coughlin, you'd have me eating crow and the Nets would be back where they haven't been in seven years. The Finals. But after an abysmal blowout to the Sucks (Bucks) and then the unidentified piece of crap that was a loss to the Wolves (which may as well be an AAU team wearing NBA attire right now, coached by Kevin McHale), I have come to the following conclusion...
You gotta go.
I'm not sure what the problem is, but I'm fairly confident this roster isn't THAT BAD. You've got one of the most prolific scoring backcourts in the NBA and what's more is, Vince actually appears comfortable not having to carry a bulk of the offense on his shoulders. The rookies that were tabbed in the draft aren't a bad lot, but I don't think they're developing the way they should. Shawne Williams is still the head case people feared from Boston College, Josh Boone isn't where he should be (maybe he should've remained for an extra year, as should have Hilton Armstrong) and ugh. Flat out, for this roster to be where they are, it's reprehensible. Much like another deposed coach (who is now rotting away in Football Siberia aka Cleveland), you got off to a hot start. Yet after they made you rich off of these praises and the like, you seemed to stop trying. Couldn't get the Nets past the Heat on two seperate occasions, then the Cavs applied the KO blow to the Nets the last time they made a postseason appearance. Another date with them would be on the horizon, should the Nets do the improbable and snag that 8th seed. Yet, I can't feel confident that's going to happen with good reason. If you can't gather up the nuts to step up and throttle the AAU Wolves and Sucks... how can I have faith you'll push the right buttons to get the Nets to the playoffs?
For some odd reason, Coach Killin' Kidd felt like you were an improvement over Byron Scott. You know that guy, right? He's the guy who helped guide the Nets to two Finals appearances and was probably a quarter and change away from beating the Spurs in 2003...but eh. People hailed you when you came out of the gate and got the Nets on that double digit winning streak, but then ya flamed out in the playoffs. Go fig, right? Still, time's come for a change. If the Nets are to land LeBron in 2010, there needs to be an actual mind on that sideline and not a body walking to and fro with his arms flailing about. The pieces are more than in place for this team to make a legitimate run at LeBron in 2010. Devin's a definite #2 option for LeBron and Vince...well, he can downgrade to that 'In Case Shit Happens' option for the Nets. Or who knows, perhaps he can be sent packing.
Still, as a Nets fan, I've stomached enough of this crap. The East is at its worst and with only two legitimate title threats (Boston and Orlando), the time has come for the former kingpins to get their throne back. The Nets are the only Eastern Conference team aside from the Pistons that can claim to have made two trips to the Finals in this decade. Unfortunately, barring an act of God, there won't be a third until after 2010...possibly? Again Opie, I had hoped that we wouldn't have to go down this road. I've already gotten Willie run on a rail, even if it didn't happen as quickly as I had hoped. I managed to motivate Coughlin enough to do the unthinkable, beat the unbeaten Pats and get a Super Bowl ring. I didn't have to do a thing with Man-dummy, he more than hung himself with the choke job at the end of last year. So what's it gonna be, Opie? You plan on getting some spinal fortitude or do I need to get a Fire Frank movement going? Your choice.
Sincerely,
Len Jersey
- Don't make me start Da Movement...you've been warned.
